My Dear Friend of Democracy,
Using my iPhone's panorama function, I captured two political institutions in Zagreb, Croatia's capital: on the left is the seat of government (Croatian: Vlada), and on the right is the parliament (Croatian: Sabor).
And what about democracy in Croatia?
Croatia is rated as a free country, with 83 out of 100 points on the Freedom House index (it was 84 last year).
Here is Freedom House’s assessment:
"Croatia is a parliamentary republic that regularly holds free elections. Civil and political rights are generally respected, though corruption in the public sector is a serious issue. The Romany population and ethnic Serbs face discrimination, as do LGBT+ people. In recent years, concerns about the presence of far-right groups and figures espousing discriminatory values in public life have increased."
See you in Europe,
Johannes
Never imagined it to be so small..
