My Dear Friend of Democracy,
Today, a photo of the city of Zenica, the geographical centre of Bosnia Herzegovina, plus an attempt to bring the most complicated political system I know of to postcard length:
Bosnia and Herzegovina is a federal state consisting of two so-called entities: the Serb-dominated Republika Srpska and the Bosniak and Croat-dominated so-called Federation. The entities have their own parliaments and governments, as does the state, which has three presidents, each of the constituent peoples, namely Serbs, Croats and Bosniaks. In addition, the High Representative (currently Christian Schmidt from Germany) appointed by the UN has extensive powers to uphold the Dayton Peace Agreement of 1995.
See you in Europe,
Johannes
