Crazy art = functioning democracy

My Dear Friend of Democracy,
I visited a fantastic exhibition in Berlin last weekend. It was about art in Germany, east and west, since the end of World War II.
What I learned there is that the state of democracy can be seen very clearly in the freedom of art.
Art is a barometer for democracy, so to speak. The freer the art, the better established democracy is.
