My Dear Friend of Democracy,
There is this beautiful idea of remembrance in Berlin (not only here): so-called "Stolpersteine" (stumbling blocks) on the ground in front of house entrances.
The stones aim to commemorate persons at the last place that they chose freely to reside, work or study when democracy had ended in Germany, and from where they were taken, arrested, tortured and killed.
As I passed a memorial stone in my street yesterday morning, I was reminded of a quote by the physicist Albert Einstein. He once said:
"The world is not threatened by evil, but by those who allow evil."
✊ Let us not allow evil. Not in ourselves. Not in others.
See you in Europe,
Johannes
