My Dear Friend of Democracy,
Did you know that Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Sarajevo, suffered the longest siege of a capital city in the history of modern warfare, for a total of 1,425 days, from April 1992 to February 1996, during the Bosnian War?
Today, Sarajevo is a lively city with a multicultural society. It is one of a few major European cities to have a mosque, Catholic church, Eastern Orthodox church, and synagogue within the same neighbourhood. It is a bustling (recent years have seen population growth and increased tourism) but not a noisy city. People from very different backgrounds seem to live well side by side in Sarajevo, unagitated, naturally. I very like it here.
See you in Europe,
Johannes
