My Dear Friend of Democracy,
With all the bad news around us, one might think that we live in the worst of all time.
But things are different.
Let me ask you this: What is the worst thing that could happen to you?
Maybe it is to lose a child.
For me, it would be.
But you know what? 2024 has probably been the year in which the smallest percentage of children died since the dawn of humanity.
(“Probably” because the most current data is from 2022, but the trend has been ongoing for quite a while.)
It's good news.
And there are many more. Think of life expectancy, global education or the hours we work.
But all day long, we listen to bad news.
It's time to find a new balance, isn’t it?
See you in Democracy,
Johannes
