When was the last time you heard something pretty disgusting said by Donald Trump?
Maybe it's been a while. However, he's constantly saying something in public. He is already campaigning for the presidential election on November 5, 2024. And he is continuously making despicable comments (for example, here). We just don't hear about it as much anymore.
Why? Because we don't want to hear the same thing over and over again. Because the news doesn't work that way. It brings what is new, not what we already know.
But that's a problem.
Donald Trump has not become less dangerous because his monstrosities are less talked about.
It is similar here in Germany with the partly right-wing extremist party AfD (Alternative for Germany). You read less and less about her spitefulness by the time the AfD becomes more extreme and successful.
So what to do? Here is what I think.
We need to speak out and address when terrible things are said. Xenophobic, inhumane and anti-democratic things. Not only do we need to maintain a moral compass, we also need to ensure that such a compass is visible to everybody. We mustn't get used to Donald Trump and the AfD. Otherwise, there will be (again) a rude awakening when those we have gotten accustomed to come to power.
