My Dear Friend of Democracy,
🌤️ Good news from my country:
Greenhouse gas emissions in Germany continue to decline. By 3.4 per cent last year1. Equally encouraging: Total emissions are below target. The goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 65 per cent by 2030 compared to 1990.
The development will probably continue like this. The strong expansion of renewable energies and networks, as well as emissions trading2, are guarantees for the continuous reduction of climate-damaging greenhouse gases.
See you in Democracy,
Johannes Eber
press release from the Federal Environment Agency (only in German)
Emissions trading is a market-oriented approach to controlling pollution by providing economic incentives for reducing the emissions of pollutants. The concept is also known as cap and trade or emissions trading scheme (ETS). Germany is part of the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). It requires polluters to pay for their greenhouse gas emissions and was launched in 2005 as the world’s first carbon market.
