The world is less polarised than we think.
Here is why.
Social media shapes our idea of polarisation. And social media companies give content that polarises a significantly greater reach. The algorithms there are programmed so that the content that users interact with will gain reach. Users like, share, and comment significantly more with such polarising content. As a consequence, we see much more of such digital content than is actually distributed. That's why we believe the digital world is rife with bawlers.
