My Dear Friend of Democracy,
An economy that brings prosperity is based on the same two prerequisites as democracy:
- To deliver good results for everyone, functioning competition is needed.
- The (election) advertising must broadly correspond to the quality later delivered.
The political offers that have come onto the market in many European countries in recent years, also in Germany, mostly fail to meet these prerequisites. They promise what the customers want rather than what is realistically feasible. And some providers, once in power, would ensure that competition ends and a political monopoly would be created.
Therefore, more providers in political competition is not automatically a good thing.
That is why I find it very gratifying that a new offer has recently entered the political market that meets these two prerequisites (realistic offers and acceptance of political competition):
Volt.
Volt is a pro-European movement founded in 2017. The first national offspring was established in my country, Germany, in March 2018. Volt Germany can be described as socially liberal, progressive and European-federalist.
✊ I like Volt in general and Volt Germany in particular. Primarily young people who are involved in politics in an unideological way - our democracy needs precisely that.
See you in democracy,
Johannes
