My Dear Friend of Democracy,
Spreading ideas about how to save democracy is sometimes frustrating.
I mean, most of the time, it isn't. But, well, sometimes.
Especially when people react to ideas with phrases like "This will never work!".
Ever heard something like this? I bet. I bet at least 1000 times.
If I'm in a good mood, I answer: But what if it works?
I believe this answer is the core of a happy and content life. If we believe that what we do today will bear fruit tomorrow. There is nothing more satisfying, isn't it? The wall in your apartment that you repaint today so that you can enjoy it tomorrow. The food you cook so you can eat it with friends later. The democracy that we stand up for today so we can live in freedom tomorrow.
The output is very important, but the input is the satisfying part, right?
Even more fundamental: We only tackle things if we are convinced, or at least hope, that it will work out. In other words, "But what if it works"-thinking is the prerequisite for things to accomplish. Only then will we start in the first place.
✊ Returning "But what if it works?" to "This will never work!"is a good starting point to save democracy. It prevents negative thoughts. It keeps us going.
See you in Europe,
Johannes
