My Dear Friend of Democracy,
Climate change can be observed at almost every place around the world. Also at the Black Forest where I was over the weekend.
The Black Forest is a large forested mountain range in the state of Baden-Württemberg in southwest Germany with an maximum elevation of 1,493 meters.
In the past, winters here were long, cold and white. Today, large parts of the winter are snow-free.
Europe has a significant share in this. In the area of today's European Union, cumulative CO₂ emissions is larger than in any other country in the world. With one exception: the USA.
So, Europe’s and the USA’s responsibility to combat climate change is particularly high. But Donald Trump has ordered his country to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement.
As a result the USA will join the only three states that are not part of it: Iran, Yemen and Libya.
One would expect that there would not only be an outcry among the international community but that it would come together to take countermeasures. Sanctions, climate tariffs. Things like that. But that hasn't happened. Almost no peep, not a single action. It seems, everybody is quiet so as not to get into Donald Trump's crosshairs.
In doing so, they promote the success of Trump's „unpredictable“ strategy.
Yet if countries were to join forces, even Donald Trump would suddenly realise that their actions have negative consequences – for the country he governs and therefore for Donald Trump himself.
See you in Democracy,
Johannes

I totally agree with you. We seem to have become sheep motivated by fear. Very sad and troubling.
