The problem lies in your first sentence, "How can democracy survive if the majority of people vote for people like Donald Trump?"

What you're saying is you don't like the result of democracy in action.

Democracy is, 'The will of the people'. If the will of the majority of the American people, according to the American voting system, is Trump, MAGA and all he stands for (and he has been brutally honest about what he stands for), then if you believe in democracy, you must surely accept that?

You are not alone in your view. I have been on Substack for over a year and seen Dem after Dem state similar views - a democratic vote must mean a Dem government. No voter can possibly vote for Trump, so any such vote must be a lie, or mistake, or corrupted, or the voter an idiot. Much the same as Trump voters said last election when Trump lost to Biden! Which suggests to me that American voters, both Dem and Rep, actually believe much the same thing - democracy only works when they get the result they want!

No wonder then that if one party offers a permanent solution, a single and final democratic vote to install one party forever, then many Americans would willingly vote for it - if only the Dems had come up with the idea of a dictatorship first!

Trump's dictatorship will be cemented over the next year or two and the Dems will be ignored, harassed, marginalised. A nimber of once-Dem career politicians will find excuses to join the Reps, because supporting Trump is the only political career moving forward, and that is more important to them than any belief system.

If there are any future elections, they will be rigged and Trump (or whomever) will be elected with a solid majority. They will only be held for two reasons; to appear like democracy still exists to the outside world, and to identify the future threats to MAGAs power.

Most dictatorships last 10 or 20 or more years, but Trump won't last that long. He has too many Rep future competitors lined up, and I expect Trump to be deposed or, more likely, assassinated in the next couple of years, making him a national hero. There will be a monument to him on the White House lawn!

So if the Dems ever want power again, it will likely be by deposing Trump, probably in a coup. And I see no sign at the moment that any Dems would have the balls for that.

Democracy in action, once and for all!
