De Niro's words are something to chew on.

But he may have a point!

The point being that the world of politics and politicians and the world of the "standard" citizen have lost contact.

To some democracy is just an abstract concept that does not reach into the citizens sphere, where you need to find an apartment, get a job, a doctor appointment.

The recognition of democracy depends on whether it delivers these things, not on whether it is a convincing concept.

Thank you, Klaus! What I take away is that if we want to convince people of the benefits of democracy, then we should talk about the very practical effects and less about theoretical concepts.
